21st Century Food
Green Policy

It has become more important than ever before for businesses, small and large, to become aware of their actions and the imprint that they leave upon our planet. Businesses, notably those in the food and beverage industry, need to begin thinking about the future and less about the immediate moment. Holding on to an environmentally friendly green vision of our shared future is the only way to minimize waste and promote responsible values.

On the consumer side of things, never before has there been such a need to make responsible and informed choices.

21st Century Food is a meal delivery company that aims to change a local industry consumed by waste and poor environmental decision making. It is our firm goal to stand out amongst the competition as a company with a solid green vision, sustainable policies and responsible practices..

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

At 21st Century Food, we place our emphasis on being a local Montreal based meal delivery company. Our office and kitchen are both located out of a single building in a central Lachine location. We currently serve the general area surrounding our business, being the Greater Montreal Area, Laval and the South Shore.

All of our meals are served in biodegradable containers, rather than wasteful plastic that will remain in landfills for generations. Each order is then shipped in re-usable containers with ice packs, rather than coolers that continually need to be refilled with ice cubes.

Our drivers use fuel efficient diesel based vehicles to make their deliveries, and are required to plan their routes ahead of time to deliver the most orders possible in the most direct way.

We use locally grown Quebec produce. We do business with local markets and organizations that deal directly with farmers. In addition, we have recently petitioned LUFA farms (the largest rooftop greenhouse in the world – based right here in Montreal, opened 2011) for a selection of their first crop as it comes available.

Our meats are purchased from a federally recognized HACCP plant to ensure proper handling, sanitation and storage of the meat.

We minimize the amount of excess produce that we order by having all of our customers place their meal orders at least 1 week in advance. This enables us to order the exact amount of products and ingredients needed to satisfy those orders, as opposed to ordering bulk amounts with the expectation to waste half as many businesses do.

SURPLUS OF FOOD AT MAJOR EVENTS

Because 21st Century Food often caters to large events, there is often a surplus of food left over afterwards. Rather than waste good meals, we currently have an understanding with The Old Brewery Mission and The Nazareth House, local non-profit organizations, to see that the left over meals are passed on to people and families who may be in need.
